One of the largest public squares in the world, this vast civic space in the heart of Monterrey was carved out in the 1980s by clearing several city blocks. It gathers the cathedral, government buildings, museums and monuments around expansive lawns, fountains and gardens. Rising above it is a soaring orange concrete beacon topped by lasers that sweep the night sky. Families, skateboarders and office workers fill the plaza throughout the day, and its scale offers rare open horizons within the densely built mountain city.
