Set on a hill overlooking Monterrey, this former bishop's palace of the late eighteenth century is the city's most important colonial building and now houses a regional history museum. Its baroque stone facade and fortified position saw fighting during several nineteenth-century conflicts, including the war with the United States. Galleries recount the history of Nuevo León through weapons, documents and carriages, while the terrace commands views over the metropolis and its mountains. It offers a rare glimpse of the region's colonial past.
