Piazza dei Signori is an elegant square in the heart of Verona, ringed by the medieval and Renaissance palaces of the city's former rulers and government. A pensive statue of the poet Dante Alighieri, who found refuge here in exile, stands at its centre. Arches and a loggia connect the surrounding buildings, and the tall Lamberti tower rises above one corner. Quieter than the neighbouring market square, it is reached through a stone arch and offers a dignified glimpse of the city's civic past.
