This arched bridge spans the Adige river in Verona and is the oldest surviving crossing in the city, its earliest arches dating from Roman times. Over the centuries it was repaired and rebuilt in brick and stone, producing the patchwork of colours visible today. Destroyed at the end of the Second World War, it was painstakingly reconstructed using original material recovered from the riverbed. The view back toward the old town from its parapet is among the most admired in Verona.
