Set into the hillside on the left bank of the Adige, this ancient theatre was built in the first century and long lay buried beneath later houses before being excavated in the 19th century. Its curved tiers of stone seating rise toward the ruins of a hilltop monastery, and remnants of the stage and arches survive at its base. An archaeological museum in the former convent above displays mosaics, bronzes and inscriptions found on the site. In summer the theatre again hosts performances.
