This Renaissance garden on the eastern edge of Verona was laid out in the late 16th century behind a noble family's palace and is among the best preserved of its kind in Italy. A long avenue of tall cypresses draws the eye up the hillside toward a carved grotesque mask set into the terraced slope. Formal parterres, box hedges, statues and a small maze fill the lower level, while paths climb to a belvedere with views back over the garden and the city. Admired by travellers for centuries, it offers a tranquil retreat near the historic centre.
