The Roman amphitheatre in the heart of Verona, constructed in the first century AD, is the third-largest surviving Roman arena and remains in active use as an open-air opera venue each summer. Its pink and white limestone exterior—partially stripped of its original outer ring by a twelfth-century earthquake—now overlooks Piazza Bra, the largest piazza in the Veneto. The summer opera season, running from June to August, draws audiences from across Europe.
