The Presidential Palace is the largest palace in Warsaw and the official seat of the President of Poland, standing on the historic Krakowskie Przedmieście avenue. Built in the seventeenth century and remodelled in a neoclassical style, its columned portico is fronted by an equestrian statue of a national hero. Over the centuries it has hosted treaties, uprisings, and state ceremonies of great significance. Rebuilt after wartime damage, it now serves the head of state, while its facade and forecourt are a familiar sight along the royal route.
