Standing beside Castle Square at the head of the Royal Route, the Church of St. Anne is one of Warsaw's best-preserved historic churches. Its neoclassical façade fronts a richly frescoed Baroque interior with an ornate high altar and painted ceilings. Attached to the church is a slender freestanding belfry that visitors can climb for a sweeping view over the Old Town rooftops and the Vistula. Long linked to student life, the church has hosted royal ceremonies and marks the threshold of the medieval quarter.
