Built as a transitional cathedral after the 2011 earthquake destroyed much of the city's Anglican cathedral, this striking A-frame structure uses large cardboard tubes, timber and a polycarbonate roof in a design by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. Its triangular facade is filled with a stained-glass window based on the rose window of the ruined original. Intended as a temporary building, it has become a symbol of the city's recovery and resilience. It hosts worship, concerts and community events.
