This collection of Gothic Revival stone buildings in central Christchurch once housed the city's university and college, where physicist Ernest Rutherford studied. After the university relocated, the complex became an arts and cultural centre with galleries, studios, shops and theatres arranged around cloistered courtyards. Severely damaged in the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, the buildings have undergone extensive restoration. The precinct is a fine ensemble of Victorian collegiate architecture.
