Known universally as La Bombonera for its steep, box-like tiers, this football stadium in the La Boca district is the home ground of Boca Juniors. Opened in 1940, its unusual shape, with three stands rising almost vertically and a fourth flattened against a street, produces a famously intense atmosphere. The vivid blue and yellow colours spill from the stands onto the surrounding streets. A club museum and stadium tours draw visitors between matches to one of the sport's most storied venues.
