The second-oldest square in Buenos Aires, this cobbled plaza lies in the bohemian San Telmo neighborhood and is famed for its Sunday antiques fair. On weekends the surrounding streets fill with stalls of old silverware, records and curiosities, while tango dancers perform for crowds. During the week its cafe terraces spread across the paving beneath low colonial-era buildings. The square witnessed early gatherings tied to Argentine independence, and it remains a living stage for the tango culture and street life associated with San Telmo.
