The Block of Enlightenment is a historic city block that grew around the Jesuit church of San Ignacio and became a centre of learning in colonial and early independent Buenos Aires. It housed the first university, a college, and later the national congress and printing presses. Beneath the buildings runs a network of colonial tunnels once used for defence and communication. Guided visits explore the courtyards, restored rooms and underground passages that trace the intellectual history of the capital.
