Georgetown City Hall is an ornate Gothic Revival timber building completed in 1889, one of the most distinctive wooden structures in the Caribbean region. Designed with a soaring clock tower, pointed windows and decorative gables, it was built to house the municipal government of the growing colonial port. Years of weathering have made its preservation a prominent conservation concern. Even in its fragile state, the elaborately carved white-painted building stands as a striking example of the wooden architecture for which Georgetown is known.
