This swing bridge crosses the Constitution River at the head of the Careenage in central Bridgetown, linking the two halves of the historic port. The current lift structure, opened in 2006, replaced a Victorian iron bridge and can pivot to admit boats into the inner basin. It carries the Independence Arch, a monument erected to mark the country's 1966 independence, and looks out over moored fishing vessels and pleasure craft. The riverside promenade nearby is a busy pedestrian corridor.
