This Franciscan church east of Puebla's centre is admired for its facade combining carved grey stone with panels of glazed tile and brick, a hallmark of the city's distinctive colonial architecture. Its slender tower and richly worked portal date largely from the eighteenth century. Inside, a side chapel holds the venerated relics of a locally revered blessed figure, drawing pilgrims throughout the year. Set within a park beside the river, the church and its gardens form a tranquil enclave a short walk from the main plaza.
