This late-Victorian mansion near Dupont Circle was the home of Christian Heurich, a German immigrant who became one of the city's most successful brewers. Completed in the 1890s, the Romanesque Revival house is celebrated as one of the best-preserved Gilded Age interiors in the country, with intact furnishings, carved woodwork, and decorative painting. It was among the first fireproof residences built in the capital. Now a museum, it interprets local brewing history and immigrant life, and its garden hosts seasonal markets and events.
