A branch of the Smithsonian American Art Museum dedicated to craft and decorative arts, the Renwick occupies an ornate Second Empire building near the White House. Designed in the 1850s and once home to the Corcoran collection, it was among the first purpose-built art museums in the country. Today its galleries showcase contemporary works in glass, wood, fiber, ceramics, and metal, often in immersive installations that fill the grand staircase and second-floor rooms. The restored Grand Salon regularly hosts rotating displays.
