Just south of the White House in President's Park, this monument honors the U.S. Army's First Infantry Division, the Big Red One. A tall granite column is crowned by a gilded bronze figure of Victory holding a laurel branch and banner, dedicated after the First World War. Surrounding walls were added over the decades to inscribe the names of division soldiers killed in the World Wars, Vietnam and the Gulf War. The stately column and its bright golden figure rise above a landscaped plaza on the walking route around the Ellipse.

Where next?
