Facing the White House across Pennsylvania Avenue, Blair House serves as the official guest residence of the president of the United States, used to host visiting heads of state and foreign dignitaries. Dating to the 1820s and expanded into a complex of connected houses, it holds a significant collection of American antiques and art. In 1950 it was the site of an assassination attempt on President Truman, who was living there during White House renovations.
