This grand Gilded Age mansion near Dupont Circle serves as the headquarters and museum of a historical society founded by officers of the Continental Army. Completed around 1905 as a winter residence for diplomat Larz Anderson, it is one of the most opulent surviving houses of the era, with a ballroom, marble halls, and painted ceilings. The museum interprets the American Revolution and displays art, weapons, and decorative objects from that period. Its lavish interiors and research library make it a distinctive stop in the embassy district.
