Mount Zion United Methodist Church

This historic church in Georgetown is regarded as one of the oldest African American congregations in the city, tracing its roots to the early nineteenth century. Its members played a role in the antislavery movement, and a nearby burial ground linked to the community is associated with the Underground Railroad. The present brick building reflects the endurance of a congregation that worshiped through slavery, emancipation, and segregation in a changing neighborhood.
