Gombe is the central administrative and business district of Kinshasa, home to government ministries, embassies, banks, hotels and the riverside boulevards of the capital. Laid out in the colonial era as the European quarter, it retains wide avenues and a concentration of institutional buildings alongside modern towers. The district borders the Congo River with views toward Brazzaville and includes markets, cultural venues and the seat of national power.
