The Boulevard du 30 Juin is the grand central artery of Kinshasa, named for the date of Congolese independence in 1960. Running through the Gombe district, this wide, tree-lined avenue is flanked by ministries, banks, hotels and commercial towers, forming the ceremonial and economic spine of the capital. Parades, celebrations and daily traffic converge along its length. As the main showcase thoroughfare of one of Africa's largest cities, the boulevard captures both the aspirations and the bustle of modern Kinshasa and its national symbolism.
