This purpose-built national museum in Kinshasa holds one of Africa's richest collections of Congolese art and material culture, drawn from the many peoples of the vast country. Masks, sculptures, textiles, instruments and ritual objects illustrate traditions from the forest, savanna and river regions. Opened in a modern building funded through international cooperation, it consolidated collections long dispersed and often held abroad. It is a flagship cultural institution of the capital.
