Borj Nord is a sixteenth-century fortress built by the Saadian sultan Ahmad al-Mansur on the heights overlooking the northern edge of the Fes medina, partly with the help of European engineers to command the city. Its thick bastioned walls and towers now house the Arms Museum, whose collection traces the history of weaponry from early daggers and muskets to ceremonial firearms and cannon. Beyond the exhibits, the terrace offers one of the finest panoramas over the rooftops, minarets and tanneries of the old town.
