This Mamluk mosque south of the Citadel, founded in the mid-fourteenth century by a son-in-law of the sultan, is best known today for the blue Iznik-style tiles added to its walls under Ottoman rule. The complex holds the tombs of its founder and members of the ruling household. Its arcaded courtyard and marble minbar reflect the original Mamluk phase, while the later decoration gives it a distinctive appearance. Standing along the historic route toward the fortress, it is a layered monument of successive architectural styles.
