This late fifteenth-century Mamluk mosque in the Darb al-Ahmar district is admired for the refinement of its decoration despite its modest footprint on an awkward corner site. The builders skillfully adapted the plan to the irregular plot, and the interior preserves richly inlaid marble surfaces, colored glass and a fine carved minbar. Its stone facade and slender minaret are worked with delicate ornament typical of the period's mature style. Often called a jewel of the neighborhood, it rewards visitors who explore beyond the largest monuments.
