Created on the site of a centuries-old rubble mound east of the historic city, this large public park opened in the early twenty-first century as one of Cairo's few major green spaces. Its formal gardens, water channels and hilltop terraces draw on Islamic garden traditions, and paths climb to viewpoints overlooking the domes and minarets of the medieval quarter. The project uncovered and restored a long stretch of the Ayyubid city wall along its western edge.
