The main terminus of the Trans-Mongolian Railway in the capital, this station is a hub for the legendary line linking Moscow and Beijing across the steppe and Gobi. Its mid-twentieth-century building, raised during the era of close Soviet ties, presents a symmetrical façade with a central clock and colonnaded portico typical of the period. Inside, travellers gather beneath high ceilings before boarding sleeper trains for multi-day journeys. Preserved steam locomotives stand nearby as monuments.
