Housed in a former Lenin Museum on the capital's central avenue, this institution showcases the extraordinary fossil wealth of the Gobi Desert, one of the world's richest dinosaur graveyards. Its star exhibit is a mounted skeleton of Tarbosaurus, a close Asian relative of Tyrannosaurus, alongside nesting Protoceratops, eggs and the famous 'fighting dinosaurs' cast. Interpretive panels explain the pioneering 1920s expeditions that first brought Gobi finds to world attention.
