This atmospheric quarter of steep lanes below İstiklal Avenue is known as the antiques district of Istanbul, its shops crammed with vintage furniture, curios and bric-a-brac. The neighbourhood gained wider fame through the novelist Orhan Pamuk, who set a book here and created the small Museum of Innocence in one of its houses to display objects evoking the story. Old apartment blocks and a historic bathhouse line the winding streets, which have drawn collectors, designers and cafés, offering a slower, more bohemian side of Beyoğlu.
