The largest Greek Orthodox church in modern Istanbul, completed in 1880 just off Taksim Square with a striking twin-towered neo-Baroque facade and a prominent dome, unusual for churches built under Ottoman rule. Its pale stone exterior rises above the rooftops at the upper end of Istiklal Avenue, and the interior holds richly painted iconography from the late 19th century. It remains an active parish of the city's Greek community.
