The Metropolitan Theater is an art deco masterpiece in Manila, opened in 1931 as the city's premier venue for opera, drama, and concerts. Its curved facade, stained glass, tropical-motif ornament, and stylised sculpture made it one of the finest theatres in the region before wartime damage and decades of neglect. A prolonged restoration returned the auditorium and its decoration to use as a performing-arts venue. It is celebrated as a rare surviving example of tropical art deco in the capital.
