Jin De Yuan is the principal Chinese temple of Jakarta's Glodok district and among the oldest in the city, with origins in the 17th century. Dedicated to a range of Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian deities, its tiled roofs, dragon ornaments, and courtyards are wreathed in incense smoke, especially during lunar new year. Worshippers light towering candles and offer prayers before gilded altars within the dim, red-lit halls. Rebuilt after fires over the centuries, it remains a living centre of devotion for the community.
