Glodok

Glodok is Jakarta's historic Chinatown, one of the oldest and largest such districts in Southeast Asia, dating to the colonial resettlement of Chinese residents in the 18th century. Its narrow lanes are crowded with temples, herbal shops, electronics markets, and food stalls serving dishes that blend Chinese and Indonesian traditions. Old temple courtyards fragrant with incense sit beside busy commercial arcades. The quarter carries a difficult history of unrest, yet endures as a vibrant centre of Chinese-Indonesian culture.
