Maritime Museum, Jakarta

Set within the thick-walled former warehouses of the old port of Sunda Kelapa, the Maritime Museum chronicles Indonesia's seafaring past and the spice trade that drew European powers to the archipelago. The colonial storehouses, once used to hold coffee, tea, and spices, now display traditional boats, navigation instruments, and cargo relics. A restored watchtower nearby offers views over the harbour where wooden pinisi schooners still moor. The exhibits connect the building's trading origins to shipping across the Indonesian seas.
