The mausoleum of Nur Jahan, the influential Mughal empress and consort of Emperor Jahangir, lies in Shahdara Bagh near her husband's tomb across the Ravi River from Lahore. Built in the mid-seventeenth century, the square red-sandstone structure once bore rich marble and tile decoration, much of it lost over time. The plain restored platform and cenotaphs today convey a quiet dignity befitting one of the most powerful women of the Mughal era. It completes the trio of imperial tombs that make Shahdara a key site of Mughal funerary art.
