The Sunehri Masjid, or Golden Mosque, stands within the crowded Kashmiri Bazaar of the walled city of Lahore, built in 1753 in the twilight of Mughal rule. It takes its name from three gilded domes that gleam above the surrounding shops and rooftops. Raised on a platform over the market, the prayer hall is reached by staircases and fronted by four small minarets at the corners. Its late-Mughal decoration and its dramatic setting amid the bazaar make it a distinctive monument of Lahore's old city.
