The landmark observation tower rising from Yongdusan Park in the heart of Busan, long a symbol of the port city. Built in 1973, its slender shaft is topped by a viewing platform whose design was inspired by the crown of a Silla-era pagoda, and from which visitors can survey the harbor, the offshore bridge, and the mountains ringing the city. The tower stands amid the park's gardens and monuments above the downtown shopping streets, and it is a popular spot both by day for the panorama and after dark when the surrounding city lights up.
