The largest seafood market in Korea, spread along the waterfront of Busan's old harbor and long a symbol of the port city's maritime identity. Vendors, many of them women known as jagalchi ajumma, sell a vast array of fresh and dried fish, shellfish, and sea creatures from stalls both indoors in a modern market building and outdoors along the quay. Visitors can pick their catch and have it prepared on the spot in upstairs eateries. The market hosts a lively autumn festival and remains a defining sensory experience of the city.
