Overlooking the Kazanka River, this large cultural complex houses museums, exhibition halls and performance spaces devoted to Tatar national heritage. Its terrace is crowned by a soaring sculpture of a mythic bird-maiden that has become a riverside landmark. Inside, collections trace the history, arts and traditions of the Tatar people, from folk crafts to twentieth-century painting. The building sits within a landscaped embankment favoured for walking, with views toward the Kremlin, and hosts concerts and civic gatherings.
