Standing on Bauman Street in central Kazan, this Orthodox cathedral is best known for its towering red-brick bell tower, one of the tallest structures in the old city and a landmark across the historic quarter. The church dates from the eighteenth century, while the pseudo-Russian bell tower was added at the end of the nineteenth. The composer Feodor Chaliapin was baptised here. Visitors climb toward the tower's viewing level for rooftop panoramas, and the interior preserves icons and decorative brickwork.
