One of the oldest archaeological museums in the region, this Odesa institution grew from a nineteenth-century learned society devoted to the antiquities of the northern Black Sea coast. Its galleries display finds from ancient Greek colonies, Scythian burials and Egyptian artefacts, including gold jewellery, painted vases and stone inscriptions. Housed in a handsome columned building near the seafront, the museum offers a rich window onto the deep history of the coastline.
