Chapter IV · Kharkiv Oblast · 9 places

Kharkiv Oblast

This cathedral in central Kharkiv is crowned by a soaring nineteenth-century bell tower built to commemorate a military victory, long one of the tallest structures in the city. The main church itself dates from the eighteenth century and follows a classical plan with a broad white facade. For much of the twentieth century the building served secular purposes before returning to religious use. Today visitors admire the towering campanile and step inside the restored nave.
