The main pedestrian square and gathering place of Pristina, this open plaza in the city centre is dominated by a large equestrian statue of the national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg. The paved space is lined with cafés, shops and public buildings and forms the heart of the capital's daily life and political demonstrations. Fountains, benches and a mix of Ottoman, Yugoslav-era and modern buildings frame the square. It serves as the setting for national celebrations concerts and public events.
