Dedicated to the traditional crafts and customs of the Greek people, this museum in the Plaka district gathers embroidery, weaving, ceramics, metalwork, carved wood and shadow-theatre puppets from across the country. Its collection illustrates rural and urban folk life from the period after the fall of Constantinople to the 20th century. A notable room reconstructs a house interior painted by the naive artist Theophilos Hatzimichail. The institution has expanded across several historic buildings in the neighbourhood.
