This small but historically important circular monument stands in the Plaka district of Athens, erected in 334 BC by a wealthy patron named Lysicrates to celebrate a victory his sponsored chorus won at a dramatic festival. It is the earliest known example of Corinthian columns used on a building's exterior. The slender marble rotunda once supported the bronze tripod awarded as the prize. Remarkably well preserved, it now stands in a small square offering a rare glimpse of antiquity.
