Tucked into the northeastern slope of the Acropolis, Anafiotika is a tiny cluster of whitewashed houses built in the 19th century by stonemasons from the Cycladic island of Anafi who came to work on King Otto's new palace. They recreated the architecture of their homeland, with flat roofs, blue shutters and narrow stepped alleys threaded with bougainvillea. The neighbourhood feels like an island village transplanted into the heart of the capital, offering unexpected views over the city rooftops.
